Five Benefits of Drinking Whiskey

If you like whiskey, then you are amongst the people which have an acquired taste for good drinks. But, more than that, you are one of those persons who can benefit from whiskey’s short and long-term advantages.

First of all, whiskey is derived from grain, being created by fermenting barley, corn, rye or wheat. All over the world, people create whiskeys for centuries, each with a distinct taste. Drunk in a moderate amount, whiskey can actually be beneficial to your health, for the following five reasons:

Moonshine Still

It contains no fat

This has been observed even by the US Department of Agriculture. Typically, 1.5-oz of whiskey has no fats, thus being acceptable as alcoholic drink in low-fat diets (if consumed in a reasonable quantity) and not only.

It decreases the risk of cancer

Whiskey contains an antioxidant known as “ellagic acid”, which can destroy malignant cells. This does not mean that just drinking whiskey will replace the benefits of more cancer-related cures, but it makes it an acceptable drink during the treatment period. Its cancer-related benefits have been studied and presented in 2005, in Glasgow, Scotland, during the EuroMedLab conference, thus it is fair to say that this benefit has been scientifically proven.

It has a low amount of calories

As all alcoholic drinks, even whiskey has some calories. But, if we take a glass of whiskey and compare it to a glass of beer, whiskey is shown to have fewer calories than beer. This makes it a good drink for ladies who want to lose weight, but still like to enjoy a good alcoholic drink once in a while, as well as a better drink for men than beer, especially when going to out to see a game or just drink for fun. However, you need to be careful with whiskey cocktails, as they contain more than one ingredient, hence, more calories.

 • It has low carbohydrates

It was observed that the same 1.5-oz fat-free whiskey shot also contains a very small amount of carbohydrates, namely 0.04 g, found under the form of sugar. This carbohydrate is a simple one, making it easy for your body to just break it down and turn it into energy, thus also making it a good carbohydrate.

It reduces the risks of general medical problems

It has been noticed that certain types of alcohol, if consumed in small quantities, have a positive effect on the body. This also applies to whiskey, which, if consumed once a day, can reduce the chances of getting dementia and suffering a stroke by 50%, as well as developing diabetes by 30-40%. This can be scientifically explained, as the alcohol in whiskey will increase the good cholesterol in your body, while also reducing blood clots. Hence, it is fair to conclude that whiskey does possess some really good benefits to the human body, thus entitling you to simply enjoy a glass with moderation.
